Fees are calculated using the simple formula of how long a task will take to complete multiplied by an hourly rate. Avoiding miscalculation involves listening very carefully to what the client requires and being prepared to offer as much free advice as necessary during the meeting.
How long does the design and artwork take?
This depends on a number of factors, mainly: the complexity of the task (detail equals effort which equals time) and its practical difficulty, the degree of support provided by the client and the production budget. Projects with very small budgets and high production values can be extremely time consuming to complete successfully.
We work on small projects that can take less than half a day to complete to major projects that seldom take less than a month and usually run to three or four months duration.
How are fees quoted?
Every quotation is broken down into the project stages and shows the amount of time calculated for each stage and the cost. As a general principle, development time overruns are absorbed. Additional fees may be charged, however, where the agreed brief is subsequently changed by the client.
Other costs
Wherever possible all other costs are identified either during the briefing meeting or in the process of writing the proposal. Other costs may include travel expenses, specialist consultants fees, picture library fees, brand registration, prototyping, short run sampling, etc.
Contract
PBD uses a form of contract that clearly defines each parties responsibilities. A draft contract is included with each proposal.
Payment
PBD’s standard terms are a deposit of 20% of the total contract value at the commencement of the project with the balance paid in installments, either monthly or at key stages of the project. For small projects we require full payment in advance.
